Why should you as a company, organization or individual care about anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion? Our world is changing swiftly and leaning itself in the direction of justice for all. And while some may see that as a solely political movement, it affects us all in our everyday lives, including how we are able to perform and engage at work and school. The stressors of what is happening in the world at large finds its way into the spaces where we spend the larger portion of our day. It’s a smart move for any organization to adopt practices that not only address anti-racism, equity, and inclusion but seeks to take care of all of its constituents as they do the work of adapting.
CARE ™ coaching is a program developed by Lucretia Marie Anderson at Joyful Muse Co, LLC to address racial justice and social inequity in corporate and educational institutions from a humanistic lens. CARE – Compassionate Anti-Racism and Equity coaching seeks to help individuals understand their own value systems, biases, and compliance in and hurt from racial and social injustices from a primary place of compassionate and mindful contemplation and practice.
While mindfulness practice has its origins in Buddhist meditation and yogic practices, the science of how it works to restructure neurological pathways and regulate emotional distress is ideal for the work of anti-racism and equity. In order to acknowledge how we have come to interact with each other based on our perception of the world at large, we must first reflect on what’s been ingrained and sit non-judgmentally with what we find. This is no easy task! However, it is essential to creating true change in the shift towards anti-racist practice and maintaining equity in our workspaces and lives.
As we learn these practices and integrate them into learning more about the history and current challenges with race and social inequity, we can build a path towards meeting the moment and creating a space where all feel included and safe.
